Some patients also get aneurysms in the arteries in their lower limbs, particularly around the knee, these are called popliteal artery aneurysms (PAAs).
Traditional treatment involves using a vein harvested from the leg to then bypass the aneurysm, but Mr Chaudhuri uses a technique to internally reline the PAA without needing any large incisions, termed “popliteal endovascular aneurysm repair (PEVAR)” and conceived as an ‘endobypass’, as accepted in peer-reviewed publications.
Mr. Chaudhuri is the convener of the Bedford Gore Viabahn Advanced Femoropopliteal Workshop where he actually trains interested surgeons and radiologists in developing this procedure
